Annie Thinks: I think by now we can all safely say that anything star123 writes is gold. The characters are always complex without being unrealistic, the dialogue is always interesting, and the plot is always unique. Always Meant Something to Me is no exception.
It's about a friends-with-benefits relationship between studious Gen and class clown Jimmy, and also a pair of borrowed undies. Jimmy wants more than a one night stand (though it's more like a ten night stand), but Gen is more cautious and hesitant than Jimmy.

This one-shot is different from other one-shots in many ways. For one, it goes years back in the characters' history. This really helps the reader get a feel for the emotions of both of the characters, even though it's told in the first-person. Also, it seems a bit more thoughtful than other one-shots. At first glance, the whole situation the MCs find themselves in seems pretty humorous, and it is, but it takes a much deeper turn, but it never gets overwhelming.

Always Meant Something to Me was all you could ask for in a one-shot: sweet, simple, and sexy. The dialogue was humorous and honest, and the characters were very likable. The grammar was almost impeccable--I only found one affect/effect mixup. Overall, this one-shot is a cute, fluffy-but-not read that just proves star123 to be, in my opinion, one of the best writers on FictionPress.
