Helen Thinks: "The Mafia Runner" by Beautifully Shattered is the tale of Aston; a teenager struggling to find the perfect balance between reaching his own life plans and making his parents happy; who meets his brother’s boss at dinner. Lucian is the Mafia Underboss and is therefore a man who is used to respect and having things done his way. Aston’s obvious distaste and disrespect towards the underboss has him intrigued and determined to find out as well as understand the younger man.

Despite the author’s note in the first chapter where Beautifully Shattered warns us that she doesn’t know anything about the Mafia or how it works, I believe that this story is perfectly delivered even with the odd minor error. The introduction of a romantic story with such a dark, criminal subplot allows for the reader to see a whole new level of thrill and adventure in the writing that has you sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation.

One of the best components of “The Mafia Runner” is the strong characters that Beautifully Shattered has created. Each one of them; the protagonists and the minor characters; are all three dimensional as well as extremely realistic that has the audience feeling each emotional scenario they face. Through her phenomenal writing, the audience can clearly see the progression and changes each character has gone through during the time changes in the stories as well as with each individual scenario that they face.

As mentioned earlier, Beautifully Shattered has mentioned that she has no knowledge of how the mafia works but even so they have delivered a gripping and addictive story that has you desperate for more and obsessively clicking the ‘next’ button. It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for a good romance story that has a darker and even criminal subplot to it and that was has been perfectly written throughout this story so I hope you read it and join me in clicking the alerts button so that, together, we can find out how this story unfolds.
