Waverly gets shipped off to Holden, Florida to spend a couple months with her aunt. Then she meets Blake Hamilton, pretty much her exact opposite. When he discovers that Waverly has been hiding the rather embarrassing secret that she can't swim, he does the unthinkable: he offers to teach her.
Rosie Thinks: I'll start off by saying that, unlike our usual fictionpress stories, this one is from wattpad. But don't let that dissuade you! This is such an adorable story with adorable characters. Vermont born and bred, Waverly has been sent to sunny Florida for the summer even though she doesn't own a single pair of shorts. Her next door neighbour, Blake, seems to hate her on sight yet still volunteers to teach her how to swim.
The story is in Waverly's POV and the authors amazing sense of humour is definitely displayed through her and the situations she gets into. ToastedBagels has crafted her character perfectly through her words. She's quirky, sarcastic, socially awkward and loveable. The 'male interest', Blake, is a bit of an enigma. He's one of those characters that I love him and hate him at the same time, although I, as of yet, don't know what to make of him. He seems like a well-rounded character, just very mysterious and angry. All the characters are so interesting, not just the main two. I want to read on not only because of what happens to the two main characters, but I want to know more about the town and all the other minor characters.
The little observations that the author makes truly helps to develop the story. The description is painted beautifully and I have a good idea in my head of what the characters and the setting looks like. There are also so many awkward situations that are just plain hilarious. However there are some spelling errors, but these could easily be fixed with another quick comb through. Altogether, this makes for a great, funny read.
Oh, how I wish this story were finished! It's bloody brilliant! x
